Never count out Ledisi. The seasoned vocalist is a Wild Card. She is also this week’s artist with a number one single on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart. “Anything For You,” the lead single from her ruminative new album, has climbed to the summit after 25 hard-won weeks. It is her first-ever chart leader on the respective chart.
That’s not all. The warm-hearted track, co-produced by long-time collaborator Rex Rideout, has Ledisi reigning as the queen of the hill on the urban adult contemporary radio chart, which builds the Adult R&B Airplay chart each week.
The closest Ledisi has been to securing a number one single was in 2011, when “Pieces of Me,” from her Grammy-nominated album of the same title, reached No. 2. She came close again in 2014 with “I Blame You,” which peaked at No. 3.
The Wild Card could be a sure thing in the Best R&B Album category at the 63rd annual Grammy Awards in 2021. It includes even stronger tracks, from soul-soaked “Same Love” to the deftly arranged “In It To Win.”
