Silk Sonic, the duo composed of Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars, has earned their second singles award from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
“Smokin Out The Window” is now certified 2x multi-platinum with over two million equivalent units sold. It is the second double platinum single from the An Evening With Silk Sonic album cycle.
Silk Sonic previously scored an RIAA award for their debut single, “Leave The Door Open.” The bedroom jam also won four trophies at the 2022 Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance. The latter category tied Silk Sonic with Jazmine Sullivan and her runaway hit “Pick Up Your Feelings.”
Shifting focus back to “Smokin’ Out The Window,” the track, co-produced by Mars and D’Mile, peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart in January 2022. It also reached the summit at R&B radio and No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
“Smokin Out The Window” is among the three tracks from An Evening With Silk Sonic to go No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart. The others include “Leave The Door Open” and “After Last Night” featuring Thundercat and Bootsy Collins.
They also achieved another No. 1 with their faithful rendition of “Love’s Train,” originally performed by Con Funk Shun.
An Evening With Silk Sonic, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, was certified platinum in August 2022. It had a resurgence inside the top ten (No. 7) on the main albums chart after three exclusive vinyl editions were released last summer.
Although the 2023 Grammys Awards is approaching, Silk Sonic declined to be part of the nominees.
“Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly and most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year,” Mars told Rolling Stone. “Andy and I, and everyone that worked on this project, won the moment the world responded to ‘Leave The Door Open.’ Everything else was just icing on the cake.”
For his association with Mary J. Blige, .Paak is nominated for two 2023 Grammys, Album of the Year (Good Morning Gorgeous [Deluxe]) and Best R&B Performance (“Here With Me”). His nod in the latter category marks his fifth consecutive performance nomination, winning his previous four in the R&B and rap field.
“Here With Me,” which .Paak co-wrote, reached No. 4 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
Mars is currently headlining a residency dubbed Live in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, .Paak is promoting the H.E.R.-assisted single, “Where I Go,” which he performs as NxWorries, a duo with Knxwledge.
