Maeta can’t seem to shake off a former lover on her silky new single “S(EX),” co-written by Kehlani and Ant Clemons.
The seductive, bedroom-ready jam explores the physical intimacy that lingers after a breakup. While the relationship may be no longer, Maeta sees nothing with old boo ex taking a swim into the deep end.
“Came right back to the sex / Fell right back in the wet / Did all that / Now it’s back on track / ‘Cause ya can’t spell sex without еx,” Maeta passionately sings in the chorus.
Speaking on her new single, Maeta shares, “There’s always that one ex… that can always get it.”
“S(EX),” which samples Floetry’s 2003 anthem “Say Yes,” is the first taste from Maeta’s forthcoming album that will release on Roc Nation Records. The project will follow her 2021 debut EP, Habits, which included the BEAM-assisted track “Toxic.”
“My EP, Habits, is about everything that comes with being in a toxic relationship – love, anger, sex, growth, self-esteem,” Maeta explained. “I was finding my way through one during the making of this project, so it was like therapy for me during that time.”
