Aaron Taylor is back. The British R&B singer has unveiled his new EP HAVE A NICE DAY! via Edenic Records.
The new EP includes the previously released tracks “Ebbs and Flows” and “Coffee In The Morning.”
“Ebbs and Flows” was released as the lead single and described by Taylor as “a song that sums up how life was for me over lockdown.” He followed up with the latter track, which Rated R&B said could be featured on “any love-inspired playlist.”
Right out the gate, the title track is an overload of positive affirmation. The song suggests the listener should blithely take the reins of their present without meddling in the ominous directions.
Taylor releases an official video for “Have a Nice Day” to illustrate its serious lyrical concern better.
“Patience” featuring Madison Ryann Ward is another pre-release from HAVE A NICE DAY! It’s a meditative track, grounded with rich gospel harmonies from Ward. Taylor’s songwriting describes not being anxious to rush what could be in store.
Discussing HAVE A NICE DAY! Taylor says, “The EP went through several variations and tracklist selections, and eventually I noticed a theme of what I describe as a ‘day in the life’ of Aaron Taylor. There are songs about morning coffee, about wanting to have a nice day, about just taking it easy.”
He continues, “Becoming a father has highlighted the importance of enjoying each day as much as possible and reminded me to take pleasure in the simple things. Musically, this selection of songs flowed best and were mostly composed within a similar window of time.”
HAVE A NICE DAY! is Taylor’s first project of new material since dropping his debut album, ICARUS, in 2020. The 11-track record included the Benny Sings-assisted “Shooting Star” and the Lalah Hathaway-featured “Don’t Leave Me Alone.”
Regarding the latter track, Taylor told Rated R&B, “It’s quite surreal to even have my name in the same sentence as [Lalah Hathaway] just because of who she is. She was really supportive. DM-ing on Instagram and expressing a lot of support for the record. It’s just so beautiful that she is willing to support someone on a grassroots level like myself.”
ICARUS was featured on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2022 list. Taylor expanded the record with gold edits of select songs, some of which had guest appearances, including BEKA, Che Lingo, Skinshape, and more.
