Not long after winning her first Grammy, Muni Long is back in the studio.
According to a recent Instagram post, Bryan-Michael Cox, Johntá Austin, and Jermaine Dupri are among the songwriters and producers lending a hand on Long’s new material.
“The last few days me @therealjohntaaustin and @bryanmichaelcox been in the studio with @munilong and we coming for all the radio slots,” wrote Durpi in a caption for a black and white photo of him, Austin, and Long in a studio session.
Austin also posted the same photograph on his Instagram but with his own caption. “My homie Priscilla aka @munilong said she wanted to collab with the Ocean Boys! I think we got something.”

Dupri and Austin have the right to be enthusiastic about the music they’re creating with Long, having had a banner year in 2022 with another R&B newbie, Ari Lennox.
Lennox’s hit single, “Pressure,” which she co-wrote alongside JaI’Len Josey, Austin, Cox, Dupri and Elite, went to No. 1 across the R&B charts, making it her first chart-topper on any chart. The latter three also produced the gold-selling track from Lennox’s age/sex/location album.
Moreover, Cox and Dupri had some of their creations recorded by R&B duo dvsn (vocalist Daniel Daley and producer Nineteen85) for their fourth album, Working on My Karma, released last year. Their first single, “If I Get Caught,” was co-handled by Cox and Dupri in collaboration with Nineteen85.
Circling back to Long, she has yet to pencil in a release date for any new solo music. However, she will contribute to the Fast X soundtrack on a teased song featuring NLE Choppa, Kodak Black, Jimin of BTS and JVKE.
In February, Long won Best R&B Performance for “Hrs & Hrs” at the 65th Grammy Awards. The love anthem was nominated for Best R&B Song, while Long was up for Best New Artist.
“Hrs & Hrs” was Long’s breakthrough hit that first appeared on her sophomore EP, Public Displays of Affection, released in 2021. Along the way, the song went to No. 1 on urban radio and was put on Public Displays of Affection: The Album.
At year-end, Public Displays of Affection: The Album was featured on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2022 list.
Earlier this year, Long joined Alex Vaughn on the song “IYKYK,” which appears on Vaughn’s The Hurtbook: Homegirl Pack.
On May 13, Long is set to perform on day three of Mary J. Blige’s Strength of a Woman Festival in Atlanta, Georgia. She will also play two other dates this spring, one of which is with SWV and another show with Lucky Daye and redveil. Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com.
