Victoria Monét is back for another round on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart. Her new Buju Banton-assisted single “Party Girls” debuts at No. 25 this week. It’s her second career entry on this list.
According to Billboard, the Hot R&B Songs chart is “ranked by audio and video streaming activity on leading digital music services, radio airplay audience impressions based on monitored airplay and sales data.”
Monét first made her inaugural showing on the Hot R&B Songs chart in August 2021 when “Coastin‘” entered at No. 24. It spent one week on the chart.
“Party Girls” has garnered more than 1.6 million streams on Spotify since it was released May 10 via Lovett Music and RCA Records.
Meanwhile, the official video has been watched over 2.4 million times on YouTube. Meji Alabi directed the visual with choreography by Sean Bankhead.
“Party Girls” was produced by Monét’s long-term collaborator D’Mile alongside Yonatan “SDTRK” Ayal and Dready.
Monét offered creative insight behind “Party Girls.”
“‘Party Girls’ is an ode to women around the world who keep celebrations alive,” Monét previously stated. “If you recall any social gathering, nightlife extravaganza, or day party, you’ll likely recall a moment where a woman made it so much more exciting! I wanted to make a song giving credit where it’s due, while simultaneously curating a sensual Caribbean-infused R&B song to continue the fun too. I hope this song makes you feel sexy, empowered and appreciated!”
Monét shared “Party Girls” as the second offering from Jaguar II, her RCA debut due this summer. It is the second installment in a Jaguar series she started in 2020.
“I’m in the studio every day. At any chance, I could beat out one of the songs I have planned for part two or three and the tracklist could change,” Monét teased to Rated R&B in a 2020 interview. “I feel comfort in the fact that the bulk of the work is done. I’m just leaving some space open for chance and for dream,” Monét told Rated R&B in 2020. “I loved so many of the songs. I was like, ‘I can’t put out a 50-song project. I need to pick the very best ones and give it to people slowly.'”
In addition to “Party Girls,” Jaguar II will include “Smoke” featuring Lucky Daye, who is also on RCA. D’Mile, Tim Suby and Yogi produced it.
If you didn’t know, Jaguar was named one of Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2020. It ranked at No. 5.
This year Monét debuted a Bryson Tiller-featured version of “We Might Even Be Falling in Love” as part of Spotify Singles. The original appears on Jaguar.
