Victoria Monét has given us another taste of the heat she’s cooking up with her new single “Party Girls” featuring Buju Banton.
The slick dancehall track is filled with crafty lines that offer plenty to Instagram captions for all those women who like over the top club nights on Friday.
Banton champions the record, toasting “all the party girls all over the world.” Meanwhile, Monét seductively sings, “Staring at me too long might get you in trouble / I’m hypnotizing, I’m just talking facts / Nightly you’ll sight me anywhere you might be.”
Monét’s song “Party Girls” comes to life with a newly released video directed by Meji Alabi, with creative direction from Paradhime and choreographed by Sean Bankhead (Missy Elliott, Normani, Megan Thee Stallion). It can be viewed below.
“Party Girls” is Monét’s second song release of the year and her second release on RCA Records, her new label home.
She previously unveiled “Smoke” featuring Lucky Daye, who is also with RCA. It was produced by D’Mile, Tim Suby and Yogi.
Discussing the new track, Monét said, “‘Smoke’ is the beginning of a new era for me! Exciting the old and inhaling the new. I am also really happy that this release is with collaborators I consider family! I can’t wait to elevate. I want all the smoke!”
“Party Girls” and “Smoke” will appear on Monét’s upcoming project, Jaguar II, the sequel to her 2020 EP, Jaguar. She teased the project in a 2020 interview with Rated R&B.
“I’m in the studio every day. At any chance, I could beat out one of the songs I have planned for part two or three and the tracklist could change. I feel comfort in the fact that the bulk of the work is done. I’m just leaving some space open for chance and for dream,” Monét told Rated R&B in 2020. “I loved so many of the songs. I was like, ‘I can’t put out a 50-song project. I need to pick the very best ones and give it to people slowly.'”
Jaguar placed No. 5 on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2020 list.
Monét has since released a streak of songs, “F.U.C.K.” and “Coastin‘.” She performed the latter track at the 2022 BET Awards.
Earlier this year, Monét remixed “We Might Even Be Falling in Love” featuring Bryson Tiller as part of Spotify Singles. The original version was featured on 2020’s Jaguar.
Before that, Monét updated another Jaguar original, “Touch Me.” It features Kehlani.
