Legendary singer, songwriter and producer Alicia Keys has announced a new musical, Hell’s Kitchen, based on her experience growing up in the Manhattan neighborhood of the same name.
Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist Kristoffer Diaz and directed by Michael Greif and choreographed by Camille A. Brown, both Tony nominees, Hell’s Kitchen revolves around a teenager, Ali, who is eager to achieve her New York dream.
According to the official logline, “Ali’s mother is just as determined to protect her daughter from the same mistakes she made. When Ali falls for a talented young drummer, both mother and daughter must face hard truths about race, defiance, and growing up. Ali feels trapped, until the sound of a neighbor playing piano opens the door to an unexpected friendship and a radically different future.”
Keys will be responsible for the music and lyrics in Hell’s Kitchen. This will include both new and original songs, as well as some of her most recognizable hits. It has not yet been confirmed which songs from her catalog will be used.
Hell’s Kitchen, a coming-of-age musical, will be performed at Newman Theater in The Public in New York City from Oct. 24 to Dec. 10, and will officially open on Nov. 19 as part of the 2023-2024 season.
Tickets for Hell’s Kitchen start at $100 for Public supporters and sponsoring partners and will be available beginning June 8 at 12 p.m. ET. General admission starts at $125, not including service fees, and will go on sale later this summer. Get more information about tickets at publictheater.org.
The musical announcement comes on the heels of Keys scoring a new No. 1 hit on R&B radio with “Come For Me” featuring Khalid and Lucky Daye. It marks her second consecutive chart-topper this year, following “Trillions” featuring Brent Faiyaz, which rode the top in January.

“Come For Me” and “Trillions” appear on KEYS II, the sequel to Keys’ 2021 double album KEYS.
Keys has spent much of the year on the road supporting KEYS II, as well as KEYS and ALICIA. She will continue on-stage engagement when she launches her headlining Keys to the Summer Tour on June 28 at FLA Live Arena in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
The Keys to the Summer Tour is a step forward in Keys’ live experience, as she will perform for the first time in a 360-degree “in the round production setup.”
