Lizzo’s latest rendition of “Special” featuring SZA is dominating R&B radio, taking the No. 1 spot this week.
It’s Lizzo’s first No. 1 hit on this airplay format and SZA’s first chart-topper on this format since 2018’s “Love Galore” featuring Travis Scott.
This isn’t SZA’s only No. 1 at radio this week. In addition to “Special,” her song “Snooze” is in the top spot at urban radio, giving SZA her fourth No. 1 hit on urban radio.
Circling back to “Special,” it’s No. 2 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart at the time of publication.
The song is a remix of the title track from Lizzo’s Grammy-nominated album, released in July 2022.
The new version was released in February, following the 65th Grammy Awards, where Lizzo won Record of the Year for “About Damn Time.” She became the first Black woman since Whitney Houston in 1994 to win this trophy.
The Made In America Festival recently announced that Lizzo and SZA will be the headlining acts for the event. This two-day festival will be held on Sept. 2 and Sept. 3, at Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
After that festival, SZA will resume her headlining SOS Tour in support of her sophomore album of the same title.
SOS was released on Dec. 10, 2022, and topped the Billboard 200 chart upon its release. The album produced multiple No. 1 hits on urban radio. It also included SZA’s first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, “Kill Bill.”
SZA is up for four awards, including Album of the Year (SOS) and Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, at the 2023 BET Awards. The ceremony airs tonight (June 25) at 8 p.m. ET.
