SZA continues to reach new milestones in her blossoming music career. The Grammy-winning singer’s song “Kill Bill” has hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, scooting controversial country singer Morgan Wallen‘s “Last Night” to No. 2. It’s SZA’s first chart-topper on the Hot 100.

SZA’s new chart accomplishment follows her Doja Cat-assisted “Kill Bill (Remix),” which dropped on April 14. According to Billboard, Doja Cat is not credited on the Hot 100 since “the remix did not account for the majority of the song’s overall consumption during the tracking week.”

Prior to reaching the peak position, “Kill Bill” spent eight weeks at No. 2 on the Hot 100. The song first made its debut on the Hot 100 in late December 2022 at No. 3.

Elsewhere, “Kill Bill” remains at No. 1 on the Hot R&B Songs chart for an 18th week and No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for a 17th week.

If “Kill Bill” stays in the top spot on the Hot R&B Songs chart for three more weeks (21), it will tie The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” for the longest-leading single on that chart; should it exceed 21 weeks, it will break The Weeknd’s record.

“Kill Bill,” which has over 846 million streams on Spotify, is lifted from SZA’s sophomore album, SOS. Released on Dec. 10, 2022, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, where it reigned supreme for 10 weeks.

In February, the album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling more than one million equivalent units. Two months later, it was certified 2x multi-platinum.

SOS also includes “Snooze,” which will serve as the next radio single from the album. The song includes a writing credit from Leon Thomas, as well as Babyface. In an exclusive interview with Rated R&B, Thomas shared the story behind creating “Snooze.”

“Me and my production partner Khris [Riddick-Tynes] were super nervous. SZA popped through, and she was so nice. I had met her before, but this was a great reintroduction to her new world of music,” Thomas shared.

“I’m glad that I was able to collaborate with such strong creators. We also worked with this kid name BLK out of Scotland. He sent some parts in. The whole thing came together really fast. She wrote [“Snooze”] in an hour. We weren’t sure if she was going to use it, so it’s a super blessing.”

In June, SZA will kick off the U.K./European leg of her SOS Tour. She will play in arenas in cities such as Paris, Manchester, London and Dublin.

The second North American leg of the tour launches Sep. 20 in Miami, Florida. From there, she will travel to Tampa, Nashville, Baltimore, Brooklyn and Los Angeles, before concluding Oct. 29 in Phoenix.
