Lifetime has released the trailer for the sequel to Mary J. Blige’s Real Love, titled Mary J. Blige’s Strength of a Woman.
In the one-minute trailer, we see Kendra (played by Ajiona Alexus) enjoying success as a photographer 15 years later.
However, she also receives news that her husband has been unfaithful, revealing cracks in their seemingly perfect marriage.
As luck would have it, Da’Vinchi‘s character, Ben, Kendra’s college love interest, reenters her life.
In order to find happiness in the end, she needs to search within herself and find new sources of strength and love.
“Strength of a Woman is a reminder of who we are,” says Blige in the promotional clip. “Telling diverse stories is so important because everyone matters. There’s something for everyone.”
Mary J. Blige’s Strength of a Woman is directed by Shari Lynette Carpenter and written by Rachel Ingram. The latter co-wrote the script for Real Love.
The movie is loosely inspired by Blige’s 2017 anthem “Strength of a Woman,” lifted from her album of the same title.
Mary J. Blige’s Strength of a Woman premieres Saturday, June 17, at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
In a recent interview with Rated R&B, Blige shared why she chose Alexus and Da’Vinchi as the leads for both films.
“I hand-selected them. I’m a fan of BMF and I saw them [in the series], and they were such strong actors. Everybody was great in BMF, but these two really stood out. I really believe in them, and I wanted them for the movie. So, their performances was phenomenal. They did great. They did excellent,” stated Blige.
