Babyface’s latest single, “As a Matter of Fact,” keeps its No. 1 position on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart for a second week.

With “As a Matter of Fact” spending two weeks in the top spot, it marks Babyface’s third solo hit to achieve this feat. The previous two were “Every Time I Close My Eyes” from his 1997 album, The Day, and “When I Can See You” from his 1993 album, For the Cool In You.

Babyface’s self-written song made headlines last week as it became his first solo track to reach No. 1 on the Adult R&B chart in 26 years.

His previous champ was “Every Time I Close My Eyes,” which started its two-week reign as the top song the week of March 29, 1997.

Babyface is the fourth male artist to lead the Adult R&B list as a lead act this year. His predecessors are Kenny Lattimore, Tank, and Usher.

Additionally, Babyface’s “As a Matter of Fact” remains ahead of the pack for a second straight week at R&B radio. It outpaces Tyrese’s current track “Don’t Think You Ever Loved Me.”

“As a Matter of Fact” was released on Feb. 9, just two days before his “America the Beautiful” performance during Super Bowl LVII. It marks his first release for P Music Group.

It is unclear if “As a Matter of Fact” is part of a project for P Music Group, as there is no supporting information available at this time.

Babyface dropped an album last year for Capitol Records titled Girls Night Out. The collaborative album featured artists such as Ari Lennox, Ella Mai, Muni Long, Kehlani, Queen Naija and Coco Jones, among others.

One of the standouts on Girls Night Out was “Keep On Fallin’,” featuring Mai, which topped R&B radio. At the 65th Grammy Awards this past February, Babyface earned his 50th Grammy nomination, and first in eight years, for his song “Keeps On Fallin'” in the Best Traditional R&B Performance category.

Following its placement on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2022 list, Girls Night Out was expanded with three new tracks earlier this year.

Last month, Babyface made his NPR Tiny Desk debut celebrating Black Music Month. He was joined by R&B vocalists Chanté Moore, Tank and Avery Wilson to perform a nearly 30-minute set.

During the performance, they sang a collection of songs Babyface wrote for himself and other prominent artists in both the R&B and pop genres, including Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige and Madonna.

Babyface’s next performance is on July 22 at the Cincinnati Music Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio. Visit babyfacemusic.com for additional information on his upcoming shows.
