Normani has hired new managers, Brandon Creed and Lydia Asrat, after parting ways with Brandon Silverstein of S10 Entertainment, according to Rolling Stone.
Of the announcement, Normani’s rep told Rolling Stone, “With new music on the horizon, and Asrat and Creed now at the helm of her musical career, she and the rest of her team are extremely excited to embark on this new chapter and partnership. She wishes Silverstein all the best.”
Creed and Asrat manage Normani together, but also have separate clients under their own companies. Creed’s roster at his newly-minted Good World Management company includes Mark Ronson, Charlie XCX and Troye Sivan, among others.
Asrat, from 10Q Management company, oversees Coco Jones who had a breakthrough year with the success of “ICU”. Asrat previously co-managed and A&R’d Doja Cat from 2017 until March 2022.
New music is expected to land sometime soon. In June, Normani collaborated with Bose to promote two products and tease a new song, “Candy Paint,” featured in a one-minute ad.
Normani discussed the inspiration behind the track with Billboard. “I really wanted to create a record that allowed me to show my personality. I feel like there’s a misconception; it probably has everything to do with my social media,” Normani explained.
She continued, “I think that people think I’m so serious, which is the complete opposite [of me]. Anybody that knows me knows that I’m really funny. I’m a goofball! I love to twerk. I’m regular. I really wanted to create a record that encompassed that and allowed my personality to shine.”
Whether “Candy Paint” will be released as Normani’s first single of the year has not yet been announced. She has not released new solo music since 2022’s “Fair,” produced by HARV.
“It captured me in the moment as I was experiencing. In real-time. I was going through it emotionally that day. I wasn’t sure if I could even really pick myself up to go to the studio. But ended up, and this was a result. And it’s therapy for me. As much as it is for everyone else, it’s for me. It’s really crazy that putting this record out. I didn’t know that it was going to be for me, too,” Normani previously told Zane Lowe of Apple Music.
“Fair” opened at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B Digital Songs chart and No. 14 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart.
Normani’s other chart success includes two top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100: “Dancing With A Stranger” with Sam Smith (No. 7) and “Love Lies” with Khalid (No. 9).
She also collected her first No. 1 on urban radio for the Cardi B-assisted “Wild Side.” The track won Best Dance Performance at the 2021 Soul Train Awards.
Before that, “Wild Side” went gold by the RIAA for pushing more than 500,000 equivalent units.
Since then, Normani has laid low with solo output, only collaborating with Josh Levi as well as Tinashe and Calvin Harris for respective project releases.
