K. Michelle, also known as Puddin, guests on a faithful version of “Love Can Build A Bridge,” the title track from The Judds‘ final album released in 1990. It also includes Nashville artist Jelly Roll and The Fisk Jubilee Singers.
In a lengthy Instagram post, she shared: “All of you know me know from the very beginning how important The Judds are to me, they shaped my entire musical being. The very first tape I EVER got as a little girl was The Judds, I watched them on the Oprah show and begged my momma and daddy for their tape. From that day all I ever wanted to do was be a country singer. I knew every word to every song on that album.”
She continued, “The passing of Naomi tore up the world but it also tore me up that I never got to thank her. Today I get to thank her and Wynonna @wynonnajudd through my music. One thing about a dream is that you can’t just sleep you gotta move your feet. Entertaining a new phase in my musical life, I couldn’t never imagined that again I would be guided in by the exact women that guided me in years ago. I take nothing for granted. Years of being told No because I didn’t fit the image and people telling you can’t be all of yourself can get discouraging. Today kinda feels like an Angel looking down saying FLY.”
“Love Can Build A Bridge” is taken from A Tribute to The Judds compilation, released this month via BMG.
The album includes additional appearances from Wynonna, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, LeAnn Rimes, Jennifer Nettles, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, Carl Perkins and more.
Puddin is set to perform “Love Can Build A Bridge” alongside Jelly Roll at the 57th Annual CMA Awards, slated to be held Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
“What an honor to be performing at the biggest night in country music the @cma awards with my Rebel Brother @jellyroll615. We got some legends to honor who changed my life,” Puddin wrote in a post announcing her participation.
Additional performers include Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson, Tanya Tucker, Little Big Town, Old Dominion, Megan Moroney and more.
Puddin released her official solo country single “Tennessee” a month prior to dropping this new remake. The track, written and produced by Louis York, is featured on K. Michelle’s sixth and final R&B album entitled I’m the Problem.
Puddin unleashed the official music video for “Tennessee” amid the promotional campaign for I’m The Problem. It premiered on CMT North America and later debuted on CMT Australia.
A country-inspired EP and full-length album are in the works by Puddin. In 2019, she confirmed that Dolly Parton wrote a song for one of the releases.
