K. Michelle, the singer also known as Puddin, is scheduled to perform at the 2023 CMA Awards on Nov. 8, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
The Memphis native will perform “Love Can Build a Bridge” with Nashville rapper Jelly Roll. The song was made famous by country duo The Judds in 1990 and was the title track of their album that same year.
“What an honor to be performing at the biggest night in country music the @cma awards with my Rebel Brother @jellyroll615. We got some legends to honor who changed my life,” Puddin wrote in a post featuring performers for the ceremony.
K. Michelle has been open about her admiration for The Judds and their impact on her music long before she adopted the name Puddin.
In March, she told People Magazine that the song she is about to perform was the only thing she listened to for a while.
Puddin’s performance will take place following their appearance on A Tribute to The Judds, a compilation album that showcases artists paying homage to The Judds.
A Tribute to The Judds is set to release on Oct. 27 and will feature a rendition of “Love Can Build A Bridge” performed by K. Michelle, Jelly Roll, and The Fisk Jubilee Singers.
Circling back to the 57th Annual CMA Awards, additional performers include Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson, Tanya Tucker, Little Big Town, Old Dominion, Megan Moroney and more.
Puddin’s relationship with CMA expanded earlier this year. At the 2023 CMA Fest in June, she and Justin Champagne performed their collaboration “Country Love Song.” Its official video followed the release of the studio version.
Puddin recently made her official solo debut on I’m the Problem, the final R&B album from K. Michelle.
The album was released in September and “Tennessee,” her first official country music offering, was unveiled as the closing and bonus track.
The song was written and produced by the musical duo Louis York, composed of Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony.
An official music video for “Tennessee” was released on Sept. 21. It premiered earlier this month on CMT in North America and later debuted on CMT Australia.
Puddin is preparing to release a country-inspired EP and full-length album, with legendary artist Dolly Parton contributing at least one song to one of the projects.
