R&B superstar Usher has teamed with K-pop artist Jung Kook for a remix of his song “Standing Next to You.”
The updated version, which includes writing support from Johntá Austin, features the R&B icon’s harmonious vocals skating over the synth-funk production.
“The universe approves when you and I dance / So elegant and heaven sent these vibes yeah / It’s way way too early to leave,” Usher sings in the second verse.
Jung Kook’s “Standing Next to You – Usher Remix” was first teased by his label Big Hit Music on Tuesday.
“We are pleased to announce the release of the remix version of ‘Standing Next to You,’ the main track of Jung Kook’s solo album, GOLDEN. Featuring the U.S.-based R&B artist Usher, this remix adds a velvety touch to the energetic vibe of the original version, showcasing the synergy between the two artists in full force,” Big Hit Music said in a statement.
Usher’s appearance on the BTS member’s song follows his collaboration, “Transparency,” with 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne. The song appears on the two rappers’ joint album, Welcome 2 Collegrove.
In August, Usher released two songs: “Boyfriend” and “Good Good” featuring Summer Walker and 21 Savage. The latter track, which has over 23 million streams on Spotify, is No. 1 for a third consecutive week on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
It marks Usher’s longest-running No. 1 on this chart since “Papers,” which also spent three weeks at No. 1 in 2010.
“Good Good” has also reached No. 1 at R&B radio, urban radio and rhythmic radio.
On Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, Usher will release his new album Coming Home via mega/gamma. It will arrive two days ahead of his eagerly awaited headlining performance at Apple Music’s Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show.
“It’s an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list,” Usher said in a statement. “I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before,” Usher shared in a statement. “Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”
Before his headlining show, Usher will appear on The Color Purple soundtrack, which releases Dec. 15. According to press materials, he will join H.E.R. for “a breathtaking duet.”
