Jhené Aiko is back with a new song, “Sun/Son.”
The ethereal track, produced by the late AUGUST 08 and Derex Williams, is an ode to Aiko and Big Sean’s son, born in 2022.
“My solar power, I’m so in love (Sun son, sun son) / You chargе me up, you charge me up,” Aiko softly coos in the chorus.
Aiko first teased the track on social media last November. “Yesterday we celebrated our baby boy’s FIRST birthday. What a beautiful and fulfilling year it’s been. What an honor to watch him grow,” Aiko wrote in an Instagram caption for a visual snippet of the song.
“This is for my favorite boy my sweet and silly Noah Woahwah mama’s baby… my Sun/Son.”
Big Sean commented under the post: “It has been an incredible year, our Noah is the light.”
“Sun/Son” is packaged with a piano version of the sentimental tune.
In 2023, Aiko released two songs: “calm & patient” and “alive & well (gratitude mantra).” The latter track, written and produced by Aiko, runs for 10 minutes.
All three songs are expected to appear on a future project by Aiko, though she has yet to announce details formally. Last April, her manager noted that “calm & patient” was the launch of a new era for Aiko.
Taz wrote in an Instagram Stories post: “A new @jheneaiko era is upon us, Taking it back to simpler times, when we just put music out for the love of it.”
Aiko’s next project will follow her 2020 album, Chilombo, which was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Progressive Album at the 63rd Grammy Awards.
Earlier this week, Aiko’s 2014 single, “The Worst,” was certified 5x platinum by the RIAA. It now ties with her Swae Lee-featured hit “Sativa” as her highest-certified single.
“The Worst” appears on Aiko’s debut EP, Sail Out, which was released in 2013.
