Charlie Wilson has returned to the top of Billboard.
The legendary singer’s latest single, “Superman,” glides from No. 3 to No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart dated May 11.
“Superman” marks Wilson’s 10th No. 1 on this chart, breaking his short-lived tie with Usher, who notched his ninth No. 1 last month with “Risk It All.”
With his new-minted chart-topper, Wilson continues his reign as the male R&B artist with the most No. 1s. Overall, he has the third-most No. 1s behind Alicia Keys (14) and Toni Braxton (11).
“I am incredibly grateful and humbled by the overwhelming support for ‘Superman,'” says Wilson. “To have another #1 hit on the Billboard Adult R&B chart is truly an important achievement to me, especially with a song so personal highlighting my wife’s endless love and support of me. She truly put the cape back on my back after very rough times.”
Wilson continues, “I want to thank my fans for their unwavering loyalty and love throughout my career. This song is also for all women, their strength, love and support is appreciated more than they know.”

Prior to “Superman,” Wilson’s last visit to No. 1 was in 2022 with his single “No Stoppin’ Us” featuring Babyface, K-Ci Hailey, and Johnny Gill. The song spent three weeks atop the chart.

“This song is truly personal for me as it reflects on the love I have for my wife and the turning point that reshaped my entire life,” explained Wilson.
“After The Gap Band’s success, I struggled with homelessness and addiction. I entered rehab, meeting my future wife, a counselor at the facility. She put the cape on my back and we’ve been rollin’ ever since (28 years). This song is also for all women, their strength, love and support is appreciated more than they know.”
On June 15, Wilson will headline day two of the Orlando Funk Fest at Central Florida Fairgrounds in Orlando, Florida.
