Lucky Daye has confirmed a release date for his third album, Algorithm.
The Grammy winner’s new album is set to arrive June 28 via Keep Cool/RCA Records.
Algorithm will consist of 14 tracks, including the singles “That’s You,” “HERicane” and “Soft.”
Speaking on the latter rock-tinged song, which is out today (May 31), Daye noted, “‘Soft’ is about how love can come over a person and make them feel vulnerable, and whilst it’s unexpected, it’s also okay to embrace it.”
He added, “To be comfortable doing the things society labels ‘soft’ like cuddling, PDA, hugging and kissing – shamelessly. It’s about a lover putting a spell on you but that spell is in fact love itself.”
According to press materials, the album “is inspired by Lucky not wanting to be bound to a certain rulebook or ‘algorithm’ that he must follow to achieve success, carving his own path in the industry.”
Daye worked with his longtime collaborator and producer D’Mile to create this upcoming body of work. “This next Lucky album is MY favorite album WE have done to date!” D’Mile wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
While a tracklist for Algorithm hasn’t been unveiled yet, Daye did reveal that he has a collaboration with British singer Raye. “I love Raye so much, not even just as a musician; as a person, I love Raye,” Daye told MuchMusic. “We had the most amazing time in the studio. Her voice is one of the most amazing voices today.”
Daye launched his Algorithm era last November with his soul-stirring single “That’s You,” co-produced by D’Mile and Bruno Mars. “I sang my heart out on ‘That’s You.’ I felt like I was on the moon,” shared Daye. “I want people to think about that one person they just can’t be without when they listen. Hopefully, that person is a good person.”
“That’s You” debuted at No. 26 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart dated for Jan. 27. This week, the song entered the top 10 at No. 6.
On April 19, Daye released the album’s second single, “HERicane.” Daye explained, “This song is about being grounded in a chaotic relationship. It’s important for people to be reminded that it’s a good time to be yourself and shine. Just be grounded and fierce in who you are.”
Earlier this month, Daye shared an intimate performance of “HERicane” that he filmed for adidas Originals‘ Sound Sessions series.
Algorithm is the follow-up to Daye’s sophomore album, Candydrip. The album, anchored by his Musiq Soulchild-sampled hit “Over,” included features from Lil Durk, Smino, and Chiiild. Candydrip was ranked No. 1 on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2022 list.
Daye will support his third album on The Algorithm Tour with special guest Fana Hues. The tour kicks off July 11 in San Francisco and will make stops in Seattle, Chicago, Toronto, Philadelphia, and more before concluding in Los Angeles on Aug. 28.
