After much anticipation, Normani has finally delivered her long-awaited debut album, Dopamine, via RCA Records.
The 13-track set includes the previously shared tracks “Wild Side” featuring Cardi B, “1:59” featuring Gunna, and “Candy Paint.” The album also features James Blake, who appears on “Tantrums,” and background vocals from Brandy on “Insomnia.”
“I feel like [Dopamine] embodies everything I wanted to say – it feels dominant, strong, assertive – but on the flipside, there are so many layers to it. You get the highs, the lows, the thrill of it all. And it’s a little toxic, too,” Normani told Dazed in a recent interview.
For production, Normani worked closely with Tommy Brown (Ariana Grande, The Weeknd), with additional contributions from Stargate, Bizness Boi, HARV, Ari Pensmith, and more.
In terms of songwriting, Normani co-wrote every song on the album with help from Brittany “Starrah” Hazzard, Nija Charles (“All Yours”), Victoria Monét (“Insomnia,” “All Yours”), and Sevyn Streeter (“Distance”), among others.
