Robin Thicke is gearing up for a musical comeback.
The Grammy-nominated singer has announced his new single, “I Know What To Do,” will release Aug. 23.
Thicke shared the news across his social media pages, coupled with a minute-long clip recapping a recent trip to the Mediterranean with his wife.
The last 10 seconds of the video features a snippet of the upcoming track. “I know what to do with all that / Make you tell your friends about that,” Thicke sings on the balmy, romantic tune.
“I Know What To Do” will mark Thicke’s first song release in two years, following 2022’s “Brown Liquor” featuring Yo Gotti. The intoxicating track was Thicke’s first single since his 2021 album, On Earth, and in Heaven.
On Earth, and in Heaven was dedicated to his late father, Alan Thicke. “My father passed away a couple of years ago, and I thought I had an album, and I had these songs that I wanted to put out, and then when that happened, it was something I wasn’t expecting, and it just kind of rattled my soul,” he told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “So, I took some time to re-think the album and then these songs started pouring out that had more meaning and more weight to them.”
Although the album was inspired by loss, it was underscored by a sense of hope and optimism. “After so much loss, it made me leave the pain behind and focus on how much I have still here with me,” Thicke explained to Rated R&B.
He added, “Now, I devote most of my time to my children, my mom, and my friends. I’ve been putting so much energy towards myself for so long in my career. I’m finding that I’m much more generous and happier. The music is about how once you decide to give more than you receive, you start to love yourself more.”
On Earth, and in Heaven included the No. 1 singles “That’s What Love Can Do” and “Look Easy,” plus “Beautiful,” “Lucky Star,” and “Forever Mine.”
Since his last album, Thicke has released a couple of standalone singles, including “Perfect Holiday” and “Day One Friend,” which is an ode to his longtime mentor, Andre Harrell.
Thicke most recently collaborated with rising singer Annie Tracy, emerging producer Stevie Matthew, and emerging R&B artist Lizzen.
Thicke is currently on tour with legendary R&B group Boyz II Men, which extends into the fall.
Last year, Thicke confirmed his ninth album is on the way. “New album coming soon,” he wrote in an Instagram post. Thicke’s fiancée April Love Geary commented on the post, hinting at a potential song from the album. “Can’t wait for everyone to hear the song about my buttcheeks!!!!” she wrote. “Which one?” Thicke asked before Geary specified, “The ballad!!!!”
