Robin Thicke has returned with his new single “I Know What to Do.”
On the self-produced, laid-back groove, Thicke confidently assures his lover of immense pleasure in the bedroom.
“Imma stroke it hard like Tiafoe / Imma eat it all like it’s Nobu / Imma have you begging for more, begging for more / Harder baby, harder baby, how you like,” he promises.
“I Know What To Do” is smooth and sexy, like a sunset yacht ride on a summer day. Thicke, who is managed by Roc Nation, revealed to Revolt that Jay-Z gave him his stamp of approval.
“I remember I sent the record to him. I rarely ever send Jay a record, but I had a feeling about this one, so I sent it to him. I asked him, ‘Is this what I think this is?’ He was like, ‘Yeah, that’s exactly what you think it is (laughs).’ And he sent me a video concept, too. Shout out to Jay!” Thicke shared.
“I Know What To Do” is the lead single from Thicke’s ninth album, which will release in February 2025. His upcoming album will follow 2021’s On Earth, and in Heaven.
The latter project was inspired by Thicke’s late father, Alan Thicke. “My father passed away a couple of years ago, and I thought I had an album, and I had these songs that I wanted to put out, and then when that happened, it was something I wasn’t expecting, and it just kind of rattled my soul,” he told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “So, I took some time to re-think the album and then these songs started pouring out that had more meaning and more weight to them.”
In an interview with Rated R&B, Thicke explained why he punctuated the album with songs that ignite hope. After so much loss, it made me leave the pain behind and focus on how much I have still here with me,” Thicke said.
He continued, “Now, I devote most of my time to my children, my mom, and my friends. I’ve been putting so much energy towards myself for so long in my career. I’m finding that I’m much more generous and happier. The music is about how once you decide to give more than you receive, you start to love yourself more.”
In 2022, Thicke released his Yo Gotti-assisted single “Brown Liquor,” along with a music video. Thicke revealed that he had been holding onto the song for a while.
“It didn’t really fit my last album,” he shared. “My last album was called On Earth, and in Heaven and it was about the people that are here and the people that have moved on. It was dedicated to my father, who passed away, and Andre Harrell, my mentor, who passed away.”
“Brown Sugar” was the second track, following “Perfect Holiday,” Thicke released after On Earth, and in Heaven. Since then, he has appeared on songs with Annie Tracy (“Close to You“), Stevie Matthew (“Hotel“) and Lizzen (“Why Remix”).
