Rising R&B singer Naomi Sharon has released her new single “Can We Do This Over” via OVO Sound.
On the acoustic ballad, produced by Jordan Ullman of Majid Jordan, Alex Lustig, and Eran Cannata, Sharon fights to save her sinking relationship and start anew.
“Can we do this over? ‘Cause I don’t want closure / Let your heart soften, I’ll give you my shoulder,” she sings in the chorus.
Speaking on “Can We Do This Over,” Sharon shares, “I remember being in a vulnerable phase. Together with Justin Tranter, the co-writer, I wrote a beautiful lyric that perfectly captured how I was feeling. That was a special experience. It is always great when you are completely in sync with a writer or producer.”
She continues, “It felt like a very open and honest process. We decided to start acoustically to see what kind of song would emerge, instead of immediately adding a full production. This allowed us to experiment with different elements and instruments. Eren Cannata, Jordan Ullman and Alex Lustig guided this process beautifully. When I received the first version, it immediately felt right. I had shared my ideas, and they interpreted them in their own way, aligning perfectly with my vision. That connection is very important to me in the creative process.”
“Can We Do This Over” is Sharon’s first taste of new music since releasing “Nothing Sweeter” in January 2024.
Regarding the latter track, Sharon explained, “‘Nothing Sweeter’ is a vulnerable song that captures the fragility of falling in love. There’s an indescribable magic in the first kiss with the one you love. Regardless of what follows, that initial kiss remains unmatched and unforgettable.”
In October 2023, Naomi Sharon released her debut album, Obsidian. The 13-track album included the singles “Another Life,” “Celestial,” “Regardless” and “Push” featuring Omah Lay.
When asked what she hoped listeners would gain from Obsidian, Sharon told Rated R&B, “That they find a way to connect with themselves… to dig deeper [and] inspire them to see their own patterns when something resonates with them, and they hear my way of talking about it or coping with it. I hope that inspires them as well to look a little bit better at their current stage in life.”
