After a year of releasing scattered singles about the struggles of love and vulnerability, rising singer Dominic Scott is ready to release a debut project. His upcoming mixtape, Color Theory, will release Dec. 19.
Scott’s mixtape announcement comes days after releasing his second song of the year, “Redlight Special.”
The short but seductive song, co-produced by Malik Ninety Five, Blaze Lassiegne and Chad Roby, is about ego and pressure.
“When those heels hit the floor, these bills do too / Take your time / I love this view / Aw, baby / ‘Cause I deserve the red light special / I’m that special,” Dominic sings.
“Redlight Special” will not appear on Color Theory, according to Scott. He tells Rated R&B it’s a “loosie” before the mixtape.
Upon releasing “Redlight Special,” Scott took to social media to offer his interpretation of its title. He curated a Spotify playlist to amplify it.

“Redlight Special is a moment of intimacy & tension between 2 (or more) people and I wanted to create that experience through ‘The Redlight Special’ playlist available now on @spotify,” Scott wrote in a caption.
Songs by fellow R&B acts such as Arin Ray, Chxrry22, Ambré and more appear on Scott’s The Redlight Special playlist.
Touching again on Color Theory, Scott tells Rated R&B he’s been working on it for over three years. He recently completed the mixtape’s mixing and mastering.
In August, Scott released “Bite My Tongue,” which he described as his “most vulnerable song” to date. While he has kept most of the progress of Color Theory under wraps, he told fans that its tracklist had been updated to include more love songs.

Scott has kept busy this year, having featured on songs by Makeout Shinobi (“Careful“) and Odd the Artist (“Head Over Hills“).
Outside of collaborations, Scott also took a seat in the director’s chair of PJ Morton’s Watch the Sun Film, a 38-minute visual compilation of songs from Morton’s album of the same title.
