According to Carey’s official online store, Here For It All “is a rich, genre-blending body of work that pays tribute to every era of Mariah that fans know and love, while introducing new collaborators and modern influences that allow the music to seamlessly span generations.”
Here For It All follows Carey’s Caution, which was ranked No. 1 on Rated R&B’s Best R&B Albums of 2018 list. Caution debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart.
The album included the Nineteen85-produced “GTFO,” “The Distance” with Ty Dolla $ign and “A No No.” It featured additional appearances from Slick Rick, Blood Orange and Gunna.
In May 2024, Carey released an EP featuring remixes of the album’s closing ballad, “Portrait,” as part of her Portrait of a Portrait installment for Audible’s Words + Music series.
In an interview with Variety, Carey shared what inspired her to revisit “Portrait.” “It’s just something that felt so strong to me the way I wrote it, because it was really about the strong feelings that I had,” she said. “So to go from such a slow, kind of very sad song to this uptempo, upbeat — still sad, because of the lyrical content — but much less sad because we whooped it up. I don’t know, I really, really enjoyed the whole process of making ‘Portrait.'”
In the same interview, Carey confirmed that she was working on her next album. “I’ve written some new songs,” she teased. “I have to figure out which songs I’m going to do and which songs I’m not going to do.”
As indicated above, Carey launched her new era with “Type Dangerous,” which features co-writing and production by Anderson. Paak. It debuted No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B Digital Song Sales and the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales charts, No. 4 on Digital Song Sales, No. 7 on Hot R&B Songs, No. 15 on Adult R&B Airplay and No. 95 on the Hot 100.
Carey performed “Type Dangerous” live for the first time at the 2025 BET Awards, where she was honored with the Ultimate Icon Award.
On July 11, Carey released Type Dangerous – The Remixes, a four-track EP featuring collaborations with Busta Rhymes, Redman, Method Man, Big Sean, DJ Snake and Luisa Sonza.
At the time of this writing, “Type Dangerous” has advanced to No. 5 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart.
