Kelly Rowland is sticking to her guns about recruiting “fresh blood” for her fifth studio album. The singer was spotted in the studio working with emerging singer/songwriter Ray BLK.
The London-bred act posted two photos on social media of her and Rowland in a Los Angeles studio. BLK insists her destiny has been fulfilled and jokes about the naysayers calling photo-opt a hoax.
BLK released her critically acclaimed debut album Empress in 2018. The project featured her single “Paradise,” which she recently reissued as an acoustic recording.
As for Rowland, she is still working on her follow-up to 2013’s Talk a Good Game. She collaborated with Dove to release an empowering track titled “Crown,” as part of its #MyHairMyCrown campaign. Prior to her partnership, she shared an eponymous single. It marked her first release as an indie artist.
“I think that what I’m most happy about now is the fact that I’m not signed,” she confessed on Instagram. “I don’t have a label that is putting all the money or anything behind everything, it’s all me. I gave myself permission to say, ‘It’s okay that I don’t have a label.’ I had a label my whole life and every time I had a label it was just always something. I did this on my own and I’m very proud. I believed in me and I believed in this record. I put my money behind it and so far everybody is loving it.”
