Janet Jackson’s influence can never be disputed. The legendary artist will be honored with the Global Icon Award at the 2018 MTV European Music Awards. Jackson will also perform a medley of her hits including her latest single “Made For Now” at the ceremony Nov. 4 at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre in Spain.
“Janet is without question one of the world’s biggest stars. Her incredible artistry has opened doors for countless others while leaving an indelible impact on pop culture – well over three decades and counting,” said Bruce Gillmer, global head of music and talent, Viacom and co-brand head, MTV International. “We’re thrilled to honor her as this year’s MTV Global Icon.”
Jackson went to her Instagram to express her gratitude for the award. “I’m honored to receive this year’s @MTVEMA Global Icon Award. I can’t wait to celebrate with my fans all around the world on Nov. 4th in Spain,” she wrote.
This is Jackson’s third icon award this year. In May, she received the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards and in August she received the Icon Award at the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards.
Last month, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced her as a nominee for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2019.
