Who can moonwalk better than Gallant today? We’ll wait. The soul master worked with director Bennett Johnson to let his footwork do the talking in his music video for “Sharpest Edges.”
The feet-focused video follows Gallant as he and his sharply-heeled guest wander around a nicely decorated bachelor pad. Interestingly, his lady friend isn’t seen fully in the video, but her presence is felt in many of the scenes. While Gallant plays calm and cool, she gets the last laugh at the end.
“Sharpest Edges” is the era-launching single for Gallant’s untitled sophomore album, which is due later this year on Genius Records/Warner Records Inc. While music maker Stint was responsible for the production framework on his Grammy-nominated predecessor Ology, Gallant has decided to bring in different producers and artists for the follow-up.
“I was more insular and analytical then,” he shared with Billboard, “Thinking and asking a lot of questions. But this time, it’s a lot more about feeling than thinking. That’s a massive shift for me.”
It’s unclear if his 2018 songs “Too Good to be True,” “Doesn’t Matter,” and “Gentlemen” will make the track list for the new album. Still, his new era gets more exciting with each new reveal.
