If you didn’t ‘know’ by now, Mary J. Blige is ‘thriving’ in the film world.
The singer/actress/entrepreneur — who recently launched her new company Blue Butterfly Productions — has been tapped to executive produce a drama series for USA Network called Philly Reign, Variety reports.
The new series was inspired by the life of notorious drug dealer Thelma Wright. From suburban housewife to drug queenpin in under five years, the death of Wright’s husband left her two choices: let her family starve — or take over the family business. With equal parts grit and grace, she forces her way to the top of the international drug game to build one of the largest cocaine and heroin operations of the 1980s.
Blige’s executive producer news comes just after it was announced she will star in the Power spin-off Power Book II: Ghost.
In other news, Blige recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of her Mary album. Rated R&B spoke with a few key people who contributed to the album, including the executive producer Kirk Burrowes.
