Kelly Rowland is giving fans exactly what they want — new music. In doing so, the global R&B superstar kicks it old school for the official soundtrack to the new Hulu original film, Bad Hair, which is available for streaming.
Emmy-winning heavyweight musician Kris Bowers curated a 27-track project that was inspired by the New Jack Swing era. It features three new songs by Rowland, as well as multiple lyric-less compositions that coincide with the film’s theme and make for easy listening.
Directed by Justin Simien, Bad Hair is about a eager young woman who wants to become a breakout star in the music television industry in 1989. She believes that getting a hair weave will improve her chances of making it big, but what she doesn’t know is that the new hair-do will cause her more grief than good.
Rowland, Usher, Vanessa Williams, Lena Waithe, Laverne Cox, Blair Underwood, and MC Lyte and more co-star in the horror satire. Stream it here.
On November 28, Rowland is set to star in Lifetime’s Merry Liddle Christmas Wedding. She also serves as executive producer for the sequel to last year’s Merry Liddle Christmas.
Most recently, Rowland, pregnant with her second child, dropped a new dance track titled “Crazy.” It follows her caffeinated tune “Coffee” from April.
