In the last year, Toni Braxton has given her fans a lot of instruction on how to put a relationship behind them. If she wasn’t telling them to just “Do It” on her ninth number one R&B hit, she was urging them to “Dance” their blues away. Today, the living legend offers more love advice in the music video for “Gotta Move On,” the H.E.R.-assisted track and third single from Spell My Name.
Director Mike Ho, who was visionary behind the energetic on-screen moments for videos for songs “Long As I Live” and “Dance,” makes the call sheet for the cinematic visual.
In the video for the quiet storm jam and standout from the new album, a couple is seen going through the motions of a rocky relationship. Although there are scenes where the two are seemingly on one accord, the female companion is dying inside from hell her man is causing her heart and mind. The woman, played by Natasha Marc, has a shower scene that has an affinity to Braxton’s emotive performance in the music video for mega-hit “Un-Break My Heart.”
Braxton and H.E.R. aren’t shot together, but both put on striking performances through a black-and-white lens.
As of late, “Gotta Move On” is seeing an increase in airplay on the urban adult contemporary radio where Braxton holds a longstanding residency as the queen of the format. She recently picked up her second top 10 of 2020 on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart, as “Live Out Your Love” with Kem entered last week. It makes her 19th top 10 on the respective chart overall.
H.E.R. just dropped a new song titled “Damage,” along with its accompanying visual. It arrives ahead of her debut Saturday Night Live appearance this weekend.
Additionally this week, H.E.R. scored yet another number one record on the Adult R&B Songs chart for “Make the Most” with Lonr.
