Monica puts down her scope and leaves the “Trenches” to lend her streetwise soul to A$AP Ferg’s new album Floor Seats II.
With Eric Hudson and Danny Ezra Murdock aboard as producers, “Big A$AP” has an analogy to a classic hip-hop/R&B collaboration. Ferg’s spits street poetry about making the best out of a bad situation to become proof positive that anyone can make it out of their tough environment.
The realness in Monica’s voice nests perfectly behind the thriving lyrics of Ferg, as she shares her rise to fame, from the hood life to the stage life.
Monica has been heavy in her hip-hop soul bag since the release of her new Lil Baby-assisted single. It premiered ahead of her history-making Verzuz battle against Brandy in late August.
The R&B heavyweight is hard at work at completing her forthcoming album, which will be released independently sometime soon. It is expected to feature contributions from Tank to PJ Morton to The Neptunes to Nov Wav to most recently, Missy Elliott.

Monica is headed to Apple Music to host her own talk show later this month. Originally scheduled to debut in September, Mo Talk will be “a safe place for us to discuss the many things we’ve all faced with in today’s world.”
This summer, Monica celebrated the 25th anniversary of her debut album Miss Thang. Revisit the album here. We also spotlighted her comeback album, Still Standing, for its 10th anniversary in March.
