It’s been nearly a four-year wait for the follow-up to Stokley’s solo debut album, Introducing Stokley. All that changes on April 5 when the Grammy-nominated singer releases his new album Sankofa via Bluraffe Entertainment Group and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis’ Flytyme/Perspective Records.
Editor’s note: Stokley did not release his album on April 5. It was pushed back and is set to arrive sometime later this summer.
The new album has already produced three singles, including his first-ever solo number one hit “She…,” the Snoop Dogg-assisted jam “Vibrant,” and most recently, the splashing duet “Cascade” featuring The Bonfyre. The latter song was the most added song on urban adult contemporary radio during the recent tracking week (January 23).
The release date announcement comes with a music video for his new self-produced track with the blonde R&B bombshell. The Josh Sikkema and Warf-directed video, set in 2025, begins with Stokley having his mind wiped clear of a past lover by doctor Bonfyre. The procedure’s success is in question when he stumbles upon his ex’s belongings (earring, ring) that triggers a cognitive attack.
Other parts of the video show the two singers performing in a club and rocking out in a warehouse with futuristic female dancers.
