After a slight delay, Kelly Rowland has finally dropped her latest project, K, via her independent imprint KTR Records Inc.
The six-track offering features Rowland’s previously shared songs: the disco-fused “Crazy,” the sultry banger “Hitman” and the empowering “Black Magic.”
K opens with a heartfelt tune titled “Flowers.” In an interview with Nadeska of Apple Music’s R&B Now, Rowland explained the significance behind the song.
“I heard this record and from the moment I heard it, it made me think about time, it made me think about people, and how precious those two are. I’ll never forget having my son, and then three weeks later, losing my mother,” Rowland said.
“It was so many things that I wanted to tell her because it made me realize the importance of time, people, and not taking them for granted — and being able to give people their flowers while they’re here; tell them you love them and tell them you appreciate them. You know, we are living in some really crazy times and I think that it’s important now, to even call people and check up on them.”
K is Rowland’s first project since her 2019 maxi-single The Kelly Rowland Edition. She also contributed to the Bad Hair soundtrack in 2020. Rowland’s last full-length album Talk A Good Game, was released in 2013.
