Lucky Daye has settled in nicely in the music industry as one of the R&B’s most valuable players since transitioning from from songwriter to artist. The gold-selling act keeps up the outpouring of new tunes with his new D’Mile-produced single, “Over,” which samples Musiq Soulchild’s “Halfcrazy.”
Daye, singing with palpable emotions, finds himself going in turbulent circles after his toxic ex returns in the picture and interrupts his process to move on with his life. He wants the past to be the past, but his old lover is unfamiliar with the definition of his new song’s title.
“Over” is the offering in the thread of new grooves from Daye. It serves as the lead single from his sophomore album, which is due in 2022.
An all-women duets EP, Table For Two, was released under the Keep Cool/RCA Records imprint ahead of Valentine’s Day this year. It marked his first music output since Painted, his official debut album issued in May 2019. He upsized the Grammy-nominated set last year with six additional tracks.
In the last few months alone, Daye has provided verses to tracks by BJ The Chicago Kid, Sinéad Harnett, VanJess, and Earth, Wind & Fire. His teamwork (“You Want My Love”) with the legendary band earned him a second top 10 single on the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart.
On October 2, Daye will play the Broccoli City Festival 2021. Then, he’ll take his talents to the Brooklyn edition of H.E.R.’s Lights on Festival the weekend of October 21-22.
