The Shindellas have returned with their new summertime anthem, “BBQs & Body Rolls Intro.”
Written and produced by Louis York (Chuck Harmony and Claude Kelly), “BBQs & Body Rolls Intro” hears the trio harmonizing over a sweltering backdrop as they get reacquainted with having a social life.
“The sun is heating up / Brown liquor in my cup / Ain’t seen my friends in like forever / So we meetin’ up / I’m talking BBQs and body rolls,” they sing.
“BBQs & Body Rolls Intro” is accompanied by a visual, which opens with Kasi, Stacy and Tam (The Shindellas) getting picked up by Chuck and Claude.
After making a pit stop at a convenience store to load up on snacks, they arrive at an outdoor function where friends greet them. We don’t get to see the entire party unfold, but that’s because it’s just getting started.
“BBQs & Body Rolls Intro” is a taste of what to expect from The Shindella’s upcoming EP, BBQs & Body Rolls, slated to release this summer via Weirdo Workshop.
The project will follow their debut album, Hits That Stick Like Grits, which ranked No. 2 on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2021 list. Rated R&B’s Keithan Samuels noted, “If you’re looking for a no-fillers album loaded with powerhouse vocals, impeccable production and meaningful lyrics, then press play on Hits That Stick Like Grits.”
Besides working with The Shindellas, Louis York has kept busy with their music. In March, they returned with “It Is What It Is,” then followed up in April with “Strawberry Skies.” Both songs and 2021’s “Headphones” will appear on their upcoming sophomore album, Healing Feeling.
