Monica partnered with NPR for its Tiny Desk (Home) Concert series to celebrate Black Music Month.
The legendary singer is joined outdoors at night with three backing vocalists and a band, where an assortment of candles are decorated at her feet. Donning a pink outfit, Monica starts the six-song set with “Angel of Mine,” one of the three songs from her sophomore album The Boy is Mine to top the Billboard Hot 100.
Monica transitions into “Love All Over Me,” the second single from her Grammy-nominated album Still Standing.
After expressing her appreciation for the opportunity to perform Tiny Desk, she revisits her 1995 debut album Miss Thang and coasts beautifully through “Why I Love You So Much.”
She followed with the well-executed rendition of “So Gone” before debuting “Friends,” a pending collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign. It’s here where Monica impresses the most, notably with her powerful and clean vocals. “Friends” is the next single from Monica’s anticipated album Trenches.
Monica closes the set with “Before You Walk Out My Life,” a historic hit single from her well-rounded debut.

In April, Monica made her debut at the CMT Music Awards, where she sang “Pray” alongside Jimmie Allen and Little Big Town. Ahead of the ceremony, she revealed the title of her forthcoming country album on the red carpet.
“I’m here working on my country album, Open Roads, executive produced by Brandi Carlile, which is unbelievably amazing. So, these things have just been aligning themselves. God has been good to me,” said Monica.
There isn’t a release date set for neither Trenches nor Open Roads. However, Monica did release the title track of the former album in August 2020. The Neptunes-produced tune features rapper Lil Baby.
Later this year, Monica will launch her oft-delayed Apple Music radio show Mo Talk.
