Following his appearance on Verzuz with Omarion, Mario returns with his new single “Main One” featuring Tory Lanez. It was co-produced by Mike Crook, Extendo Beats and SprngBrk.
Over a thumping backbeat, Mario sings, “I know you wanna be the main one / I got a whole list of some names on the way / I ain’t f**kin’ with the same one / Ooh, I love when you drop it down low / But you’re still high maintenance.”
“Main One” is Mario’s first song release of 2022. In 2021, just two days before Valentine’s Day, Mario released the pillowy “Luxury Love.” Later that fall, he teamed with Chris Brown for another bedroom banger titled “Get Back.”
Mario first announced his collaboration with Lanez on July 11 and immediately received pushback from fans. Many fans expressed their disappointment in Mario’s decision to work with Lanez, who was accused of allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion’s feet in 2020.
Lanez is facing the following charges: one felony count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and one count of carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
The trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 14. Lanez has pleaded not guilty.
During an Instagram Live broadcast, Mario doubled down on why he collaborated with Lanez. He also urged fans to “keep the energy positive.”
“If y’all f*k with the music, f*k with it. If you don’t, we’re just gonna keep creating,” he casually said, nearly two years after tweeting “protect Black women.”
This @theestallion & @torylanez situation got me in awe. Sad AF? Knowing Tory personally this shit crazy to me. Black men we gotta learn how to control our ego, anger etc. at some point the switch gotta turn off! Protect black women! Heal black men. Love & respect each other!

In other Mario news, he previously hinted at a new song with Ty Dolla $ign that is produced by Oscar and Grammy winner D’Mile.
“Before I get to my solo sh*t later this year, I had to secure the summa,” Mario wrote. The title of the song and a release date have not been revealed yet.
It’s not certain if “Main One” or Mario’s upcoming Ty Dolla $ign-assisted song will appear on a project. In 2020, he released a five-track EP titled Closer to Mars.
