Givēon continues to collect awards from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The Grammy-nominated singer’s single “For Tonight” is now certified platinum. It has sold more than one million equivalent units.
The piano-laden track was produced by Akeel, Jahaan Sweet and Sevn Thomas. It was released on Sept. 24, 2021, as the lead single from Givēon’s debut album, Give Or Take.
“For Tonight” first scored an RIAA award in February. It was certified gold after exceeding 500,000 equivalent sales units.
Givēon has been racking up RIAA awards this year. His breakout single “Heartbreak Anniversary” was certified 3x multi-platinum in January and was later upgraded to 4x multi-platinum in June.
In February, “The Beach” was declared gold, while “Like I Want You” reached 2x multi-platinum.
Both songs, plus “Heartbreak Anniversary,” are lifted from Givēon’s debut EP, Take Time, which was released March 27, 2020. The EP also includes the gold-selling “Favorite Mistake.”
In April, “All To Me” was certified gold. It served as a bonus track on Givēon’s When It’s All Said And Done… Take Time, a compilation of his two EPs Take Time and When It’s All Said And Done.
“My first two EPs were stories about a chapter in my love life,” Givēon explained in an Instagram caption. “The bright spots and the nuisances. I really just used music as a vehicle to exhibit all of my vulnerabilities and truths.”
Over the summer, Givēon collected four additional RIAA awards, including the previously mentioned “Heartbreak Anniversary,” “Stuck On You” (platinum), When It’s All Said And Done… Take Time (platinum) and “Peaches” (4x multi-platinum).
The latter track is Justin Bieber’s Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper, which also features Daniel Caesar.
“Peaches” earned the trio multiple nominations at the 64th Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Performance and Best Music Video.
Circling back to Give Or Take, Givēon released the album on June 24 via Not So Fast/Epic Records. The 15-track project does not contain any features.
“My debut album Give Or Take is a collection of reminiscences over the last few years of my life,” Givēon exclusively told Rated R&B.
“Suddenly having to adapt to a world in which there are so many eyes watching and experiencing a wide spectrum of emotions at once naturally brought these songs to the surface.”
Last month, Givēon wrapped up his headlining Give Or Take Tour, which launched in mid-August.
Givēon is nominated for Best R&B/Soul Male Artist at the 2022 Soul Train Awards. Hosted by actor/comedian Deon Cole, the ceremony will air Sunday, Nov. 27 at 8 p.m. ET on BET and BET Her.
He is also nominated for Favorite R&B Male Artist at the 2022 American Music Awards. The fan-voted awards show will air live Sunday, Nov. 20, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
