The Weeknd’s “Die For You (Remix)” with Ariana Grande leaps over Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week.

“Die For You (Remix)” is The Weeknd’s seventh No. 1 hit on the main singles chart. His previous chart-topper, “Save Your Tears,” was a remix featuring Grande. It reigned over the Hot 100 chart for two weeks beginning May 8, 2021.

The Weeknd’s seven chart-toppers on the Billboard Hot 100 chart include:

  • “Can’t Feel My Face,” three weeks at No. 1, Aug. 22, 2015
  • “The Hills,” six weeks at No. 1, Oct. 3, 2015
  • “Starboy” featuring Daft Punk, one week at No. 1, Jan. 7, 2017
  • “Heartless,” one week at No. 1, Dec. 14, 2019
  • “Blinding Lights,” four weeks at No. 1, Apr. 4, 2020
  • “Save Your Tears” with Ariana Grande, two weeks at No. 1, May 8, 2021
  • “Die For You” with Ariana Grande, one week at No. 1 to date, Mar. 11, 2023

The Weeknd sets a new Hot 100 record by making the second-longest climb to No. 1 with “Die For You.” It stands behind Mariah Carey’s evergreen holiday single, “All I Want for Christmas,” which debuted at No. 83 on the Hot 100 chart in January 2000 and eventually topped in December 2019.

“Die For You” also marks the longest climb among non-holiday singles, with more than six years needed to achieve this feat. The Weeknd’s other Grande collaboration, “Save Your Tears (Remix),” is the sixth lengthiest trip to the top of the Hot 100 chart.

Additionally, The Weeknd is the first Black male artist to touch the No. 1 position on the Hot 100 chart this year.

Hot 100 chart aside, “Die For You” went to No. 1 on the following Billboard charts: Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot R&B Songs.

On the Hot R&B Songs, The Weeknd tallies his 11th leader, the most of any other artist since the chart launched in October 2012. Meanwhile, he logs his eighth No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

The Weeknd repackaged “Save Your Tears” as a remix on Feb. 24 in response to its standard version climbing the Hot 100. It was No. 6 at the time of that publication.

Days after, The Weeknd issued Die For You, a maxi single that features alternate versions, including an instrumental and sped-up version.

The original version of “Die For You” was certified 5x multi-platinum by the RIAA in December 2022, following a surge in streaming activity due to TikTok. The song appears on The Weeknd’s Grammy-winning 2016 album, Starboy.

Last week, The Weeknd shared Live at SoFi Stadium, his first live album that captured his sold-out, two-night concerts at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California, last November for his After Hours Till Dawn Tour.

Speaking of The Weeknd’s After Hours Till Dawn Tour, its second leg, which covers Europe and Latin America, kicks off June 10 at Etihad Stadium in Manchester.
