Halle Bailey has treated her fans to an acoustic performance of her solo debut single, “Angel,” keeping the momentum going strong.
With the assistance of harpist Madison Calley, Halle fully invests herself in delivering a pleasurable listening experience that showcases her spectacular and elastic vocal talent.
“Angel” has garnered more than 8.4 million streams on Spotify since it was released Aug. 4 via Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records.
Moreover, the official video has over 11 million views on YouTube. Wendy Morgan (Alicia Keys, Janelle Monáe) directed the mesmerizing visual.
“This song for me is so very special and near and dear to my heart. With everything I’ve gone through the past 3-4 years, suddenly finding myself in this bubble of all these eyes and new opinions, it was easy for me to feel doubt in myself and who I was,” Halle explained.
She continued, “This song for me was my climb out of those feelings, a mantra and promise to myself that the work I’m doing here on earth matters and that I matter. I wanted to be able to embrace and be proud of myself and who I am naturally through and through. I hope other brown and Black girls and everyone in general feel embraced, respected, and inspired hearing the words of this song.”
“Angel,” which made impressive debuts on Billboard last month, is the first offering from Halle’s forthcoming untitled EP, which she told Cosmopolitan in a recent interview is coming “definitely before the end of the year.”
Regarding the musical direction of the project, Halle stated, “Sound-wise, it’s a little modern R&B-ish, with all the jazz elements and hints of pop that I love.”
Halle will play a young Nettie in the upcoming The Color Purple remake, set to release on Christmas Day 2023. She previously starred as Ariel in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.
