Grammy-winning singer Victoria Monét has unveiled the video for her fan-favorite track and latest single, “Alright.”
In the electrifying video, directed by Dave Meyers, Monét performs a range of dance styles, choreographed by Sean Bankhead, while donning different looks.
“‘Alright’ is about liberation and freedom at its core! This video is a visual presentation of that sentiment through freedom of movement and fluidity between masculine and feminine energy,” says Monét. “It was an honor to work alongside Dave Meyers and Sean Bankhead and this cast on this visual! What a crazy combo!!”
She continues, “Plus, EVERY single person who had their hands on this visual was extremely passionate from inception, and we all worked really hard to bring it to life! They showed up with their A game surpassing what we all imagined. Serious teamwork! We all patiently and meticulously crafted it and are extremely excited to release it into the world! There’s no better month to release this visual than Pride Month, Black Music Month and the beginning of summer 24! I can’t wait to see where dance artists and the ballroom culture take it.”
“Alright,” produced by Kaytranada, is lifted from Monét’s Grammy-winning album, Jaguar II.
“Alright” is the fourth song from the album to receive video treatment, following “On My Mama,” “Party Girls” featuring Buju Banton, and “Smoke” featuring Lucky Daye.
Jaguar II was released Aug. 25, 2023, via RCA Records. The album debuted at No. 6 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart, scoring Monét’s first top 10 on this list. “Alright” debuted and peaked at No. 13 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart. Given the new video release, it’s possible to see the song re-enter Billboard.
Jaguar II is the sequel to Monét’s 2020 EP, Jaguar. Earlier this month, the EP’s interlude, “We Might Even Be Falling in Love,” was certified gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) for selling over 500,000 equivalent units. It’s Monét’s second RIAA award as a lead artist and her third overall.
On June 27, Monét will be presented with the ASCAP Vanguard Award at the 2024 Rhythm & Soul Music Awards in Los Angeles.
“Victoria Monét has proven herself not only as an illuminating songwriter, but also as a flourishing artist and ASCAP member who continues to break barriers,” said Paul Williams, ASCAP board chair and president. “Her resilience, talent, and exemplary work ethic have helped her become a multi-award-winning singer and songwriter. She is well-deserving of the ASCAP Vanguard Award.”
Monét is also nominated for five awards at the 2024 BET Awards, which airs live Sunday, June 30, at 8 p.m. ET on BET. Her nominations include Album of the Year (Jaguar II), Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, BET Her, Video of the Year (“On My Mama“), and Viewer’s Choice Award (“On My Mama”).
