Day26 is back. The R&B group has released their long-awaited third album, Day Ones, via The Exclusives World Wide.
The album comes exactly 17 years after the group was established on Making the Band 4 (Aug. 26, 2007).
The independently released project consists of 16 tracks, which includes co-writing credits from all five members: Willie Taylor, Brian Angel, Big Mike, Que, and Robert Curry. They are also co-executive producers of the album.
Day Ones takes listeners on a 50-minute journey that explores different themes surrounding love and relationships.
On “Old Thing Back,” they contemplate rekindling a flame with an ex. “I know they say you shouldn’t go back / But we can tell them they don’t know a damn thing,” they sing.
“Be A Man” is an honest track about taking accountability for shortcomings. The Don Corleon-produced “Givin'” is an Afrobeats-inspired bop that hears them reciprocating the love they receive from their respective partners.
Then, there’s “In Or Out,” which finds them seeking clarity on where things stand in a relationship. “Cause all we ever do is break up / Then we make up / Girl, instead of fighting, we should make love / Are you in or out?” they croon.
Day Ones is Day26’s first full-length album since 2009’s Forever In A Day. The album included the lead single “Imma Put It On Her,” produced by Blaze “The Champ.”
Forever In A Day debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, with 113,000 copies sold in the first week.
Last year, Day26 made their 2014 EP, The Return, available on all streaming platforms for the first time.
“I’m so glad this project is about to be heard finally,” Curry wrote on Instagram. “Even though this was years ago it sounds fresh and new. Congratulations bros I couldn’t be prouder of being a part of @officialday26.”
In October 2018, they released their EP A New Day, which topped iTunes’ R&B Albums chart. Brian Angel did not appear on the project, as he had announced his departure earlier that summer.
