Rising star Victoria Monét has teamed with R&B icon Usher for her new single “SOS,” produced by Camper.
“SOS,” short for “Sex On Sight,” is a sugary jam that captures the intense anticipation of sweet lovemaking with someone special. The sultry track arrives just in time for the approaching cuffing season.
Over mood-setting instrumentation, Monét sings, “I am way too sexy to be alone / Wanna show you a time, a time that I’m on / Want you to come / Send me your ETA.”
Usher appears in the second verse, starting with a smooth-talking rap before transitioning to his buttery harmonies. “And when I hit it right / In the right place / Look me in the eyes / Do what I say / Bend it over, throw it back / You and I, tongue-tied,” he sings.
“SOS (Sex On Sight)’ is about desire. It’s about the urgency you feel when you need some love, physical touch and quality attention!” Monét explains.
She continues, “Sometimes that desire can feel as urgent as being rescued from a natural disaster, or in this case, rescued from your own sensual urges. Just like a storm, SOS summons and forewarns a lover of the rainfall that is to come and welcomes the beautiful relief from that desire. It feels romantic, playful, sultry and direct. Based in fantasy and the warmest tones of R&B. It feels timeless and we hope you enjoy the escape!”
“SOS (Sex on Sight)” is the first offering from Jaguar II (Deluxe), an expanded version of Monét’s Grammy-winning debut album.
Jaguar II was released Aug. 25, 2023, via RCA Records. The album included the hit single “On My Mama,” as well as other favorites like “Smoke” featuring Lucky Daye, “Party Girls” featuring Buju Banton, “Alright” and “Hollywood.”
The latter song, which features Earth, Wind & Fire and her daughter Hazel Monét, was nominated for Best Traditional R&B Performance at the 66th Grammy Awards.
At the same ceremony, Monét won three Grammy Awards: Best New Artist, Best R&B Album and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical).
Monét and Usher’s collaboration was destined to happen. Earlier this year, Monét congratulated Usher with a customized jacket at his Las Vegas residency for his then-approaching Super Bowl Halftime Show performance. They were also the most-nominated artists at the 2024 NAACP Image Awards.
At the 2024 BET Awards, Monét participated in Usher’s tribute performance for his Lifetime Achievement Award. She danced alongside Teyana Taylor for an electrifying rendition of his song “Bad Girl.”
Additionally, Usher and Victoria Monét were honored at ASCAP’s 2024 Rhythm & Soul Music Awards, which was held days ahead of the BET Awards. Usher received the ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award, while Monét was presented with the ASCAP Vanguard Award.
Speaking of awards shows, they’re both nominated in multiple categories at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.
In other news, Usher is currently on his Past Present Future Tour, which launched in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 20. At his second sold-out show in the nation’s capital, Usher brought out D.C. natives Raheem DeVaughn, Wale, and Sugar Bear of the go-go band E.U.
