Monica has unveiled the official video for her new single “Friends” featuring Ty Dolla $ign.
Directed by Sarah McColgan (H.E.R., Miguel, Charli XCX), the video was filmed in a California desert. It opens with the R&B legend and her dancers performing smooth choreography by Parris Goebel (Ciara, Rihanna, SZA). Ty Dolla $ign makes an appearance in the video and is joined by Monica in several shots.
Monica first previewed “Friends” during her Tiny Desk (Home) Concert for NPR. The R&B legend also performed some of her classics, including “Angel of Mine,” “Love All Over Me,” “Why I Love You So Much,” “So Gone” and “Before You Walk Out of My Life.”
“Friends” is the latest single from Monica’s forthcoming album, Trenches, due this fall on her imprint MonDeenise Music Inc.
The album will include the Lil Baby-assisted “Trenches,” produced by The Neptunes, and “Commitment.” The latter song reached No. 1 at R&B radio in July 2019. It’s not clear if her other 2019 track “Me + You” will make the album cut.

Trenches will follow Monica’s 2015 album, Code Red, which was her final project under RCA Records.
Monica has more than Trenches on her plate. She also is working on her first country album titled Open Roads. At the 2022 CMT Music Awards red carpet, Monica shared an update on her forthcoming project.
“I’m here working on my country album, Open Roads, executive produced by Brandi Carlile, which is unbelievably amazing. So, these things have just been aligning themselves. God has been good to me,” she shared.
At the ceremony, Monica joined Jimmie Allen and Little Big Town on the main stage to perform their song “Pray.”
