Summer Walker and Ari Lennox have dedicated listeners at R&B Radio. Their collaborative track “Unloyal” reaches No. 1 this week on the radio format, bumping Beyoncé’s hit “Break My Soul” from the top spot.
The sultry kiss-off has garnered more than eight million audience impressions across U.S.-based radio stations. “Unloyal” is lifted from Walker’s sophomore album, Still Over It, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in November 2021. The sequel to Walker’s 2019 debut LP, Over It, pushed 166,000 equivalent units during its first week of sales.
The album’s tracks garnered 201.1 million on-demand streams, becoming the largest streaming week for an R&B album by a woman in history. It also was the second R&B album by a woman to top the Billboard 200 since Solange’s 2016 chef-d’oeuvre A Seat at the Table.
“Unloyal,” which debuted and peaked at No. 48 on the Billboard Hot 100, is Lennox’s second chart-topper this year at R&B radio. In January, her gold-selling single “Pressure” reached the top of the summit. The catchy tune, produced by Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox and Elite, will appear on Lennox’s sophomore album, age/sex/location, out Sept. 9.
Walker recently joined Lennox on her new track “Queen Space,” which is featured on her freshly-released EP, Away Message. The project, which dropped Aug. 31 without any prior announcement, is Lennox’s way of holding over fans until age/sex/location arrives.
Circling back to Walker, she released her Summer Series (Amazon Music Live) EP last month. It includes her live rendition of “Unloyal,” as well as “Over It,” “Playing Games,” Session 32″ and “Throw It Away.” Walker also teamed with The Weeknd on his “Best Friends (Remix).” The original song is lifted from his blockbuster album, Dawn FM.
