Victoria Monét is bringing more heat this season with her new single “On My Mama,” produced by D’Mile, Deputy and Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman.
Over a thumping production perfectly made for a bad bitch bounce, Monét matches that energy with self-affirming lyrics.
“I’m so deep in my bag / Like a grandma with a peppermint / They say, “Ooh, she smell good” / That’s just ’cause I’m Heaven-sent,” Monét sings.
The certified banger samples Texas rapper Chalie Boy’s 2009 bop “I Look Good.”
“On My Mama” is the follow-up to Monét’s previously shared tracks “Smoke” with Lucky Daye and “Party Girls” featuring Buju Banton.
Both songs were accompanied by an official music video. The latter track debuted and peaked at No. 25 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart in May.
All three songs will appear on Monét’s upcoming project, Jaguar II, set to release this year on RCA Records. Jaguar II is the sequel to Monét’s 2020 EP.
Jaguar included bops like “Moment,” “Ass Like That,” “Experience” with Khalid and SG Lewis, and “Dive.”
Monét hinted at Jaguar becoming a series in a 2020 interview with Rated R&B. “I’m in the studio every day. At any chance, I could beat out one of the songs I have planned for part two or three and the tracklist could change. I feel comfort in the fact that the bulk of the work is done. I’m just leaving some space open for chance and for dream,” Monét said. “I loved so many of the songs. I was like, ‘I can’t put out a 50-song project. I need to pick the very best ones and give it to people slowly.'”
