Summer Walker has achieved a new certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Her 2018 project, Last Day of Summer, has officially crossed the platinum mark, selling over one million equivalent units.
Last Day of Summer is the third project by Walker to be certified. Her debut album, Over It, is 2x platinum and its sequel, Still Over It, is gold.
To celebrate the achievement, Walker announced the release of Girls Need Love (Girls Mix), which features five variations of her 2018 hit single, “Girls Need Love.”
LVRN and Interscope Records will release the project on Oct. 20. Victoria Monét, Tyla, and Tink will make guest appearances. The project will include a solo explicit version and an acoustic version, which was released with the announcement.
The solo version of “Girls Need Love” is Walker’s most-certified song release (5x multi-platinum).
Meanwhile, her Drake-assisted version has amassed over 521 million streams on Spotify. It was her first top 40 record on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at No. 37.
Additionally, on Oct. 20, a special fifth anniversary vinyl edition of Last Day of Summer will be released. It will be pressed on cobalt blue vinyl and priced at $25.
The vinyl edition will include 14 tracks, with one bonus track — “Karma (A Capella).” Thirteen tracks are from the original release, which came out Oct. 19, 2018.
“Karma” was a sleeper hit for Walker, gaining popularity on TikTok and topping urban radio in the spring. It’s also a platinum song release.
