Summer Walker has released Girls Need Love (Girls Mix), a new compilation that features women in R&B remixing her 2018 breakout hit, “Girls Need Love.”
The compilation includes guest versions of the multi-platinum single with Victoria Monét, Tink and Tyla. Each artist injects their own unique style, bringing renewed interest to the track.
Girls Need Love (Girls Mix) also includes an acoustic version and a solo explicit version sung by Walker. The EP announcement was accompanied by the former version earlier this week.
Walker uploaded the official acoustic version video on YouTube after it was exclusively released on Apple Music. The visual was directed by Lacey Duke. It can be watched below.
“Girls Need Love,” released in 2018, appears on Walker’s debut project, Last Day of Summer, which was newly certified platinum (one million equivalent units sold). Less than a year later, the song received an official remix featuring Canadian rapper Drake.
The updated version featuring Drake assisted Walker in achieving her first top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 37.
According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the solo cut of “Girls Need Love” is certified 5x multi-platinum for surpassing sales of five million equivalent units in the U.S. It’s her most certified song release to date.
Girls Need Love (Girls Mix) is being released in conjunction with the fifth anniversary of Last Day of Summer.
To commemorate this occasion, Walker has created a special vinyl edition that is available for purchase on her official website. The vinyl will be pressed in cobalt blue and priced at $25.
The anniversary edition of Last Day of Summer includes all the original songs plus a bonus track, “Karma (A Capella).”
The standard EP released on Oct. 19, 2018, had the original version of the latter track that reached No.1 on urban radio this spring and is now platinum.
