Victoria Monét has returned to Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart for the third time in her career.
The Grammy winner’s new single “SOS (Sex On Sight)” with R&B icon Usher enters at No. 21 on the airplay chart for the week dated Sept. 28.
It marks Monét’s highest debut ranking, with “On My Mama” starting at No. 27 in the July 1, 2023, issue and “Coastin'” debuting at No. 28 on Sept. 11, 2021.
Eventually, “On My Mama,” which was nominated for two 2024 Grammys, hit No. 1 in March 2024 and stayed there for three weeks.
For Usher, “SOS” is the 38th entry on the Adult R&B Airplay chart. Just last week, he made history as the fourth male artist in a lead role to spend 49 weeks in the top 10 with “Good Good,” featuring Summer Walker and 21 Savage.
This week, the track produced by Mel & Mus, which had six weeks atop, has tied Usher with Brian McKnight as the second male artist to spend at least 50 weeks in the top 10 region. McKnight received this accolade for “Find Myself in You.”
Circling back to Monét, “SOS (Sex On Sight)” first found success on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart during the week of Sept. 14, debuting at No. 12. It’s her second-highest placement, preceded by “On My Mama,” which debuted at No. 16 and peaked at No. 4.
Billboard aside, Monét is enjoying airplay at R&B radio. On the Mediabase-powered format, “SOS (Sex On Sight)” posts at No. 19 with 467 spins and over one million audience impressions.
According to Mediabase, “SOS” was the most added song for the week dated Sept. 4. A week later, the steamy tune was the second most added song, with 16 adds. Queen Naija’s “Good Girls Finish Last” came in first, with 33 adds.
“SOS (Sex On Sight)” was released as the lead single from Monét’s upcoming album, Jaguar II (Deluxe), a continuation of her multi-awarded debut album. The Camper-produced track came out Aug. 27 via RCA Records.
Regarding the new single, Monét explained, “SOS (Sex On Sight)’ is about desire. It’s about the urgency you feel when you need some love, physical touch and quality attention! Sometimes that desire can feel as urgent as being rescued from a natural disaster, or in this case, rescued from your own sensual urges.”
She continued, “Just like a storm, SOS summons and forewarns a lover of the rainfall that is to come and welcomes the beautiful relief from that desire. It feels romantic, playful, sultry and direct. Based in fantasy and the warmest tones of R&B. It feels timeless and we hope you enjoy the escape!”
Jaguar II (Deluxe) will be released on Oct. 4 by RCA Records. The reissue will contain 21 songs, including the 11 songs from the original album and 10 new tracks.
“We Might Even Be Falling In Love (Duet),” featuring Bryson Tiller, will also appear on Jaguar II (Deluxe) as one of the bonus tracks. The track was previously released as a Spotify Singles exclusive on Valentine’s Day 2023.
Jaguar II (Deluxe) follows the massive success of Jaguar II, which was released Aug. 25, 2023. The album debuted at No. 6 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart.
